In Sure Hands With Jan!Jan Trout, an Asheville native, embodies a refreshing approach when it comes to talking about insurance. Jan's goals are to educate and inform consumers so they're able to match their insurance needs with their budget.
Prior to insurance, Jan exercised her compassion for others as a social worker in Asheville's low-income housing. On a daily basis, Jan could be found helping women and families overcome challenges to meet their personal goals and work responsibilities. Jan's years of experience in this field allow her current clients to receive more than a good insurance package, but also a conscientious contact. You are able to call directly with any questions or concerns about your coverage. Jan Trout is third generation Asheville. Her grandfather, Mark Brown, and father Bruce Brown were both attorneys in Asheville. Jan's commitment to her local roots and helping others can be traced back to her grandmother, Faye Manley, who placed nothing between her own life and extending a hand to women who were trying to raise a family. Faye guided single mothers and provided housing on a sliding scale above Manley's Market, a store that could once be found on Charlotte Street; she and her husband Bernard ran the market below. More of Jan's rich Asheville roots may be found in "Look Homeward Angel" by Thomas Wolfe. It's rumored that Jan's maternal grandfather Bernard Manley, was the boy who drove the horse cart delivery wagon. The story goes that Jan's grandfather, a teenager at the time, would sleep on the wagon until the horse stopped. Bernard would wake up and deliver the groceries, then promptly hop back in the wagon and take another cat nap until his next stop. Today you can often find Jan in local coffee shops, at Chamber events or walking her dogs in Weaverville or Asheville. Jan is married to Dave of Trout Insurance Services, and together they have a daughter, Jennifer, who recently graduated from UNC Chapel Hill and is the Development Coordinator for the National Board of Certified Counselors located in Greensboro. Jan and Jennifer participate in local runs/walks such as the Turkey Trot in Asheville and hope to join the Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston next year. Jennifer, who's more of a runner, occasionally slows down to smell the roses with Jan. Jan values the 10 years she served as a Girl Scout leader and her family continues to support the goals of those in her community. Locally, Jan and Dave host an annual fundraiser for MANNA Foodbank. Dave, a former chef, is always willing to lend a hand preparing a dinner to help out the community. He prepares the entire meal for the women's shelter two or three times a year. Jennifer volunteers at local organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and is organizing a 5k race/walkathon to promote mental health awareness in May. This conscientious family consistently sponsors and volunteers for programs that provide food and heat assistance, mental health services and physical education. The Trouts strive to leave a positive impact on their community and the world. If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one. ~Mother Teresa |
